Clearwater has advised the investment company Profura on the sale of Trensums Food, a leading producer of plant-based drinks, to Fazer Group. The transaction has been approved by the Swedish Competition Authority.

Founded in 1948, Trensums Food showcases a rich history within liquid foods where among other things, it has been a pioneer in the development and commercialisation of oat-based drinks. Profura has invested heavily in the company during its ownership and streamlined the production, making Trensums a European leader in oat-based drinks and related products.

The acquisition is part of Fazer’s growth strategy and ambition to become one of the leaders within plant-based food and non-dairy drinks in northern Europe, it enables the company to highly increase its oat drink production capacity and is also a platform to reach new markets for non-dairy products. Trensums Food will be part of the business area Fazer Lifestyle Foods with a focus on plant-based drinks, breakfast products, smoothies, plant-based meals, and food tech.

Trensums Food is based in Tingsryd in southern Sweden and has around 180 employees. With the acquisition, Profura hands over the ownership to Fazer with the aim of continuing to grow and develop the business in the coming years.

Oat based milk

I am very pleased that Fazer, the Nordic food experience company with a long history, will be the new owner of Trensums Food AB. In Fazer, we see a strong owner, who is an expert at oats and wants to invest in plant-based products. This creates good opportunities for Trensum's continued development, which of course is also positive for Tingsryd.

Mikael Thörnkvist, CEO, Profura
Oat based milk

Fazer’s growth is based on in-depth consumer insights turned into innovative products and meaningful food experiences. Consumer demand for nutritious plant-based foods is growing fast, and our ambition is to become one of the leading players in oats and plant-based food in Northern Europe. The acquisition gives Fazer an even stronger foothold in a rapidly growing category and the opportunity to expand in our current and future markets. With its long history in oat drinks, Trensums Food will also offer us extensive manufacturing and R&D expertise to further strengthen Fazer’s already strong know-how in oats.
