Clearwater has advised the shareholders of Montaco, a Portuguese player in the protective coating sector, on its sale to independent investment management firm, Phyxius.
Founded in 1977, Montaco is a Portuguese company that specialises in the development and application of anticorrosive protective coating solutions for metal surfaces, having expanded to other business segments such as special coatings, concrete coatings, and building and equipment rehabilitation.
Montaco has a nationwide recognition in their line of work, having developed works for many leading Portuguese companies in their sectors. The business has performed some emblematic works in the country, namely the special coating of the Dona Maria Pia, São João and D. Luís Bridges. Over the years, the company has strengthened its position in the north of Portugal, while becoming a leading player in the anticorrosive protective coating solutions.
Phxyius is an independent investment management firm specialising in alternative investment classes such as private equity and venture capital. The investment firm aims to build an investment portfolio in the metalworks and metallurgy cluster through the acquisition of leading companies to enhance its footprint in the domestic and international markets. Phyxius has recently completed the acquisition of RoadSign and UELD Metal Solutions.
This acquisition is part of Phyxius’s strategy to reinforce its competences in the metalworking sector to leverage Montaco’s operations and branding to the next stage of development, while endorsing Phyxius’s platform operations and international presence.
