Clearwater has advised The Institute of Education, one of the best known schools in Ireland, on its sale to Dukes Education, an international schools group with more than 32 schools across the UK and Europe. The Institute of Education and Dukes Education both share a common vision, values, and a strong culture of excellence.

The Institute of Education, based on Leeson Street in Dublin, is a multi-denominational, co-educational school founded in 1969 by the late Ray Kearns. With a staff of 200, it currently provides senior cycle tuition and exam preparation courses in 28 Leaving Cert subjects, to over 7,000 full and part-time students annually.

Dukes Education believes The Institute of Education has an excellent reputation as one of Ireland’s most pioneering, private, second level schools. There are no plans to change the name, current operating model, or teaching arrangements of the Institute, as it will very much be a case of business as usual. The Principal of The Institute of Education, Yvonne O’Toole, is to continue in her current role. The Managing Director of The Institute, Peter Kearns, is to step down, but will maintain an interest in the business, while fellow Director, Úna Kearns, is to leave the organisation after 22 years.

Today signals an exciting new chapter for The Institute of Education. It is an equally special day for me personally, my sister and fellow Director, Úna, and indeed my wider family including our mother, Brid, and brothers, Edward and Andrew, who both worked in the Institute in the past. Going forward, the ethos of excellence that has been the hallmark of The Institute of Education, will continue to prevail under Dukes Education, and our combined expertise and experience will help build on our great successes to date. I would like to thank John, and the wider Clearwater team, who were an invaluable partner throughout this transaction, and helped deliver an outstanding result for all parties involved.

I am delighted to be marking the entry of Dukes Education into Ireland, while also welcoming the prestigious Institute of Education into the Dukes family of schools. This is a strategically important step for Dukes and a fitting legacy for the Kearns family, who created and built the Institute up over five decades to become one of Ireland’s best known educational facilities. The Institute has an enviable track record in education, and supporting students in achieving academic success. This aligns so well with the Dukes’ vision and belief in the power of education to transform lives. While I know the Institute will benefit from becoming part of Dukes, we too will grow in stature from this new alliance. Working together, we hope to set many more young people on the exciting path to happy, successful, and fulfilled lives.

Aatif Hassan, Chairman and Founder, Dukes Education

We are delighted to have advised Peter and Una at The Institute of Education on its sale to Dukes Education.
