Clearwater has advised Nexus Underwriting Management Limited (Nexus) on raising €18m (£16m) in additional debt facilities to support the continued acquisition strategy, which included the recent acquisition of Capital Risks MGA (CRML).

CRML is a London-based warranty and indemnity MGA founded in 2017 by Nathan Sewell and Jason Edwards. The acquisition will improve the financial and professional policy opportunities for Nexus.

The additional debt facilities will allow Nexus to continue to pursue further strategic acquisitions to strengthen its market position and broaden its service offering.

This is the second transaction in which Clearwater has advised Nexus, following the growth capital raised in 2017.

With this additional debt raising, Nexus is able to further advance its goal of creating a diverse virtual insurance company. Our successful buy and build strategy, whereby we focus on acquiring profitable, niche MGAs, enables us to continue to extend our geographical reach and the classes of business we underwrite.

It’s been a pleasure to support the Nexus management team again. Nexus has delivered very strong growth over the past couple of years, but there are still a number of further growth opportunities for the business in a highly fragmented market. This additional capital will enable management to continue with their strategic plans, with exciting prospects ahead.
