We have advised Charleville hire & platform Ltd (CPH), one of Ireland’s leading specialist-powered access companies, on its sale to Vp plc (Vp), a specialist equipment rental business based in the UK.

CPH is based in County Cork, operating from a 2.4-acre, modern purpose-built site. It principally services the growing pharma, renewables, technology and food ingredient sectors and has an extensive blue-chip client list.

The business was established in 1989. Martin Hanley and Jimmy Dundon, both from Cork, led a management buy-out in 2018 and continue to lead the CPH business today. All members of the senior management team will remain with the business post-acquisition.

CPH offers a broad portfolio of specialist hire equipment across the Republic of Ireland, with over 1,000 machines including boom lifts, scissor lifts, vertical lifts, ultra boom lifts and other access equipment. The company is proud that the majority of its equipment is zero emissions at the point of use, providing a key sustainability differentiator from the competition.

In June 2024, Vp plc set out its updated strategy with a focus on growing its specialist capabilities in the equipment rental market. The acquisition of CPH enables the Group to grow its capabilities, particularly in the powered access hire equipment and services market as well as providing an opportunity for the Group to grow its Irish footprint.

Jonathan May, Chief Operating Officer, Vp plc

We are thrilled to have advised CPH on its sale to Vp. CPH’s impressive growth, driven by its strong reputation, experienced management team, and favourable macro tailwinds, will be further enhanced by joining Vp. It has been an absolute pleasure working with Martin Hanley and Jimmy Dundon, and we look forward to seeing what the business will achieve in this next chapter.
