We have advised Alma Media on the sale of Baltic News Service (BNS) to Koha Capital, an Estonian venture capital company. BNS is the leading news agency and media monitoring company in the Baltic countries. The transaction was signed and closed in March 2014.
Alma Media is a Finnish media company listed on the NASDAQ OMX Helsinki.
Alma acquired BNS in 1998 in a transaction advised by Clearwater. However, as synergies with Alma’s core businesses have remained small, it decided to divest the company.
Clearwater advised Alma on five successful cross-border M&A transactions since the end of 2011, including acquisitions in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.
