Clearwater advises the shareholders of Papeterie Zuber Rieder (Zuber Rieder), a high-quality paper manufacturer, on its sale to Fedrigoni Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of fine papers, creative papers, premium wine labels, and self-adhesive labels.

Founded in 1881 and based in Boussières, Doubs, France, Zuber Rieder was taken over in the early 2000s by Luc Gaillet and Alain Martz with the aim of repositioning the company in a fast-growing segment of premium labels for wine and spirits. With nearly 130 employees, Zuber Rieder has experienced strong growth, turning its industrial facilities into one of Europe’s most efficient speciality paper production sites.

Fedrigoni Group employs 4,500 people in 27 countries and sells over 25,000 products across 132 countries. With this acquisition, Zuber Rieder becomes part of the Fedrigoni Group's paper division.

This partnership will enable the new entity to become the undisputed, global manufacturer of premium papers for wine and spirits as Zuber Rieder will benefit from Fedrigoni’s production capabilities and international network to continue its growth.

Zuber Rieder paper

We share a long relationship with Clearwater, over several years. First, in the search and valuation of external growth targets, and then, from the end of 2021, looking for an industrial partner to pursue Zuber Rieder’s saga with our teams. This led to the sale of our shares to the worldwide leader in speciality papers, Fedrigoni Group, in December 2022. Throughout this process, we have had constant support from Jonathan Bursztyn and his team, with strong dialogue marked by mutual requirements. Clearwater has masterfully managed the various transactions and has paid close attention to the specificities of our business and Zuber Rieder’s culture.

Zuber Rieder is a prime example of the medium-sized companies we like to support over several years at Clearwater. The management team has built an exemplary track record for this company, based in Boussières, which in 15 years has become one of the world leaders in premium labels for wine and spirits. We are convinced that the integration within Fedrigoni Group will provide the company with new development perspectives in the short, medium, and long term.
