Clearwater has advised LISAqua, a low-impact and sustainable aquaculture start-up, on its €2.6m fundraising to support the development of innovative industrial tools. This capital increase completes a non-dilutive financing of €2.3m from Bpifrance and the banks Crédit Maritime Grand Ouest and CIC Ouest.

Founded in 2018 by Charlotte Schoelinck, a doctor in marine biology, Caroline Madoc, an engineer from Mines de Paris and Gabriel Boneu, an entrepreneur from HEC Paris, the deep tech start-up with 15 employees aims to revolutionise aquaculture with its low environmental impact production system.

LISAqua has developed “permaquaculture”, a patented co-culture technology combining prawns, micro-organisms, and marine invertebrates in closed-circuit indoor aquaculture farms. Since 2019, the company has been marketing the first fresh, local, environmentally friendly gambas, guaranteed “triple zero”: zero antibiotics, zero kilometres travelled, and zero polluting emissions in France.

LISAqua has carried out a €2.6m capital increase with the support of Le Gouessant agricultural cooperative and a pool of investors including the historical shareholders.

After three years of research and development, the financing operation will enable LISAqua to build the first prawn farm in France. This 2,000m2 facility based in Saint-Herblain will produce ten tonnes of prawns per year for fishmongers across the Nantes area.

Our entry into LISAqua’s capital reflects our desire to implement our culture of co-construction for the benefit of a company of the future. We are proud to have been able to share this ambition with Lisaqua’s management team and investors to create this unique ecosystem focused on innovation.

We are delighted to welcome new investors in this round of financing, which will accelerate LISAqua’s development and validate its model of setting up indoor aquaculture farms close to consumption areas. This financing strengthens LISAqua’s ambition to quickly become the leading player in the production of fresh, local and eco-responsible prawns with a replicable production model.

Hervé Bachelot Lallier, Associate Investment Director, GO CAPITAL

We are very pleased to have accompanied the founders of Lisaqua in this key fundraising. We are impressed by LISAqua’s innovative approach, its eco-friendly dimension, and especially its permaquaculture know-how. We look forward to continuing to support the team in this next stage of their development.
