We have advised Platinum Equity on the signing of a binding agreement for the acquisition of a majority stake in Trime, a leading European multinational manufacturer specialising in lighting towers, mobile generators, and security towers for construction sites and infrastructure projects, from 21 Invest. Our M&A and debt advisory teams advised Platinum Equity on the transaction.
Based in Cassinetta di Lugagnano, Milan, Trime develops and manufactures essential solutions for worker safety and operational continuity on construction sites, major infrastructure projects, mining sites, emergency operations, and events. Its product range includes conventional and green solutions – hybrid, battery-powered and solar-powered – which enable a reduction of up to 90% in energy consumption and emissions compared with diesel-powered solutions. The company manufactures across four plants in Italy, generating over 90% of its revenue abroad and serving customers in more than 30 countries, with direct sales subsidiaries in the UK, the Netherlands, the US, and Australia.
In recent years, Trime has experienced strong growth driven by international expansion, particularly in the US and Australia, product innovation and the development of renewable energy solutions. Since 2021, revenue has risen from €81m to an estimated €150m in 2026, with EBITDA more than doubling, whilst the workforce has grown to over 300 employees, consolidating the company’s position as the go-to supplier for leading international rental operators.
Platinum Equity will work alongside founder Andrea Fontanella, Chief Executive Officer Paolo Tacconi, and the management team, who will reinvest alongside the new shareholder, in the next phase of development, with a particular focus on the US market. The growth strategy includes investments in production capacity, sales coverage, logistics, spare parts availability, and customer service in the US, as well as the expansion of the range of mobile generators, ongoing product innovation, and selected acquisitions.
Our debt advisory team raised finance to support the transaction, provided by a syndicate of banks comprising Intesa Sanpaolo, UniCredit, BPER Banca, Crédit Agricole, BNL BNP Paribas, and Deutsche Bank.
The transaction is subject to the usual conditions and regulatory approvals, and closing is expected in early 2027.
