Pharmaceutical Profiles

With a healthy working relationship of more than 6 years, Clearwater proves to be valuable medication for Pharmaceutical Profiles in creating solid deal structures for future growth.

Ruddington-based Pharmaceutical Profiles was founded in 1991 as a spin-out from the University of Nottingham by Dr Ian Wilding and Professor Bob Davis to provide drug development services to the global pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Employing 100 highly skilled medical and scientific staff, it has representative offices in Princeton, New Jersey and Tokyo.

Pharmaceutical Profiles (also known as Prophilian), provides its services to many of the top global pharmaceutical companies, such as Eli Lilly, Pfizer and Sanofi Aventis, as well as emerging biotechnology companies.

Pharmaceutical Profiles has developed a highly valued suite of clinical services that help pharmaceutical and biotech companies to improve their decision making in the drug development process. These services allow drug companies to save money in the expensive process of developing new medicines and have helped Pharmaceutical Profiles to receive the prestigious Frost and Sullivan award for excellence in technology during 2004.

Clearwater originally advised the company in 1998 on negotiating development capital and refinancing package, with 3i and Natwest.

In 2003, Clearwater again sourced additional development capital to enable the company to finance the acquisition of new technology in the field of drug delivery. Funding was provided by 3i and The Bank of Scotland.

Clearwater now continues this strong working relationship with a £10 million recapitalisation / MBO of the clinical trials provider, backed with further funding by private equity investor 3i.

The company’s sales have trebled in the last five years.
