Calrec Audio
Calrec Audio (Calrec), a leading manufacturer of audio products equipment for broadcasters, has a bright future ahead following its acquisition by Japanese - based, D&M Holdings Inc (D&M).
Established in 1956, Calrec produces audio mixing consoles that are capable of handling the most complex live and outdoor broadcasting events. Its products sell worldwide through a network of distributors and clients include the BBC, ITV, NBC, CBS, Fox, MBS and Asahi. The company has significantly increased its market share in the past few years following the introduction of a suite of new digital sound desks.
D&M, based in Kawasaki, is a global operating company providing worldwide management and distribution platforms for premium consumer, automotive, commercial and professional audio and video businesses.
Clearwater worked closely with the shareholders of Calrec on the exit, finding strategic value from an overseas trade buyer. Both Calrec and D&M will benefit from Clearwater bringing both companies together, with D&M gaining a clear platform for delivering further growth into new markets, along with Calrec obtaining greater economies of scale and opportunities for cross-selling.
Our ability to integrate globally via our membership of a powerful worldwide M&A organisation, IMAP, allowed us to focus on Japanese based D&M Holdings as the key strategic buyer.
Director John Gluck commented:
"Clearwater were able to run a very successful process given the niche nature of the market in which we operate and the unique requirements of the shareholders. Clearwater took the time and effort to research our market and provide a comprehensive list of purchasers around the world.
At all times they were mindful of our best interests and were able to negotiate a deal with a trade purchaser which fully met our ambitions and the strategic direction of the business. They remained with us throughout all discussions and guided us safely through the potential minefields.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Clearwater to other interested parties."
